Welcome!  At Memorial Middle School, we embrace the idea of extracurricular participation and encourage your involvement in our many offerings.  We encourage involvement based on the reality that not only have we seen with our own eyes the power of extracurricular involvement, but researchers across the nation have shown that students do better than their counterparts who are not involved.  The development of these indicators that produce immediate and enduring advantage for those involved include:

• Academically, involved students can expect to have higher grade-point averages and class rank, a more positive academic attitude, take more challenging courses, do better in core courses, have higher homework completion rates, realize a measurable and meaningful gain in their college admissions test scores, gain greater acceptance to college, and expect to do better in future endeavors, specifically in college, and career development.

• They develop deeper social values as they are more likely to engage in volunteering, possess greater civic involvement, register to vote, vote in elections, and harbor a sense of pride in their community.  Ultimately, they are more likely to have better social skills that lead to becoming more responsible adults and productive citizens.

• Involvement also fosters greater school spirit and develops school pride.
