Memorial Middle School

  • Welcome to Memorial Middle School!  At Memorial Middle School we take pride in offering students a supportive educational environment as they transition from the elementary level to young adulthood. Our schedule, curricula and extracurricular programs are specifically designed for the middle-level student and foster not only academic success, but promote the development of physical, emotional and social strengths.

The Memorial Middle School community believes that all children will gain the knowledge and skills needed for a future of success. This is accomplished with the work of our teachers who work in an interdisciplinary team structure and develop educational programs and lesson plans collaboratively. Teachers also devote time to meet with parents and students as needed to maximize the potential of individual students.  Our schedule allows time for students to receive additional support, enrichment, or access to technology during an Advisory period each morning.  After school, our Homework Club provides students an opportunity to work on their classroom assignments with the assistance of a teacher and peers who are members of the National Honor Society from Spotswood High School.  Furthermore, school trips are used to augment the educational and socialization process imperative for this age level.

All students at Memorial Middle School have access to a full-time school counselor. It is the primary focus of the counselor to provide assistance to all students in the areas of academics, social/emotional issues, conflict resolution and career planning. This is accomplished through individual, group and classroom counseling.  As this is a unique and critical stage in childhood development, our counselor maintains an “open-door policy” and is prepared to support students as we cultivate a positive school environment.

Parent support and collaboration within the school community is fostered at Memorial Middle School in many ways.  In addition to receiving school and district information through the Honeywell Instant Alert System, parents have access to student schedules, assignments, grades, and attendance status through a student information system called Genesis.  Parents receive information about their children through semi-annual parent/teacher conferences, team meetings, parent-counselor/principal appointments, and student agenda planners.  The school utilizes an updated website, regular email blasts, “spotlight” publications, and Twitter to keep parents informed of Memorial School events.  A supportive relationship with the Spotswood PTA also fosters parent communication at various events throughout the year such as the book fair, graduation, Back-to-School Night, Teacher Appreciation Day, and Walk to School Day.

With the benefits of extracurricular programming well documented, students are encouraged to participate in a comprehensive after school program that includes both athletic and club programming where students can extend learnings from the classroom and develop important life skills.

So, again, welcome to Memorial School - an enjoy!
